Macy en Hippo

A picture book for children with type 1 diabetes

Flemish children's author Marc De Bel is Hippo's honorary patron. Together with Mrs Barbara Flamand he created the picture book 'Macy en Hippo' for children with type 1 diabetes. The book is beautifully illustrated by Marieke van Ditshuizen. Macy is a girl with type 1 diabetes, and she is given a soft toy, Hippo, who has type 1 diabetes too. One of the aims of the book is that children can take it to school and have their teacher read it aloud. That way their classmates also gain a better understanding of what diabetes actually involves. It is a perfect book for parents who want to know more about the condition as well: the more they know, the better they can cope with it. With financial support from the pharmaceutical sector (NovoNordisk), the book is given to every Belgian child with type 1 diabetes at diagnosis, but you can also buy it through our webshop.
