DiaBeTaboe: Movie, Mix & Match at Kinepolis

Our project

Type 1 diabetes occurs at every age and often meets with a lack of understanding, which leaves people with the condition isolated from those around them. People who do not know the condition underestimate its impact. The effect on loneliness is invisible. That makes it hard to talk about, and a sense of loneliness takes hold.

This year we are organising four film mornings at Kinepolis in Leuven, Hasselt, Antwerp and Ghent. By screening the film Inside Out 2 (Flemish version), in which type 1 diabetes features on screen, we put the condition in the spotlight. Afterwards there is an interactive meet-up, where we connect people going through the same thing, in order to break diabetes loneliness.

More information

Every booking must include at least one person with type 1 diabetes.

We provide the film tickets, one food/drink voucher per two people to spend in the shop, and the reception at the meet-up. The reception was approved by the dietitians of the paediatric diabetes team at UZ Leuven. We ask the caterer to state the number of grams of carbohydrate for each item.

These events are aimed at children, young people and adults with type 1 diabetes, and at their families.

Be quick, places are limited!

Additional information

Please let us know in good time if you cannot come, so that we can offer your place to someone else. If you see the message 'fully booked', send an email to info@hippoandfriends.be and we will put you on the waiting list.

Taking part means the film AND the meet-up.

This project was made possible with the support of the 'De Warmste Week' fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation.
The Ghent edition was co-funded with the support of Rotary Club Gent.

Together we break diabetes loneliness!
