World Diabetes Day 2025

November is known worldwide as the month for bringing diabetes to people's attention. During 'Diabetes Awareness Month' we make an extra effort to raise awareness of type 1 diabetes.

Go blue

For World Diabetes Day on 14 November, we set up the awareness campaign 'Go blue'. This campaign, a follow-up to 'Colour your school blue', was extended this year to childcare settings, secondary schools, higher education and organisations. With an educational communication pack we brought type 1 diabetes to people's attention in an accessible way.

In total, 175 Flemish schools and organisations turned blue on World Diabetes Day. Schools and organisations were decorated in blue and, thanks to the educational presentations and cards, type 1 diabetes could be discussed in the classroom or with colleagues.

With this edition we reached more than 150,000 people.

With thanks to Abbott, Novo Nordisk, Dexcom and Medtronic diabetes for the support that made this awareness campaign possible.

At the age of 13, editor Fien was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Because the condition is invisible, a lot of misunderstanding still surrounds it. And that leads to prejudice. High time to put that right: that is what we are all doing together today, on World Diabetes Day.

High time to test our colleagues' knowledge. 🔥

With thanks to all our sponsors for the support that allows us to inform people about research into type 1 diabetes year after year.

On World Diabetes Day our social media turned blue. We could hardly keep up, but it was wonderful to see all the posts and stories appear. Flanders turned blue and (type 1) diabetes was brought to people's attention. That is without doubt largely thanks to your support and commitment. 💙 Through our social media channels we reached no fewer than 140,000 people.
